Game play
Basic rules
- The game is played two against two
- The goal is to reach 21 points
- A team must win by at least 2 points
- The start of the game is decided by rock paper scissors
At the start, the two players of one team stand on the same side of the board and face the opposing team. The distance to the board during the serve is approximately 244 cm.
After the game begins, there is no fixed team side anymore. Players may move 360 degrees around the board as long as they do not interfere with the opposing team’s play.
Serve
- The ball must be tossed into the air before hitting
- The serve must hit the black flat surface of the board Black Ball
- If the ball hits the red slope, this counts as a fault with a second serve attempt
- If the ball completely misses the board, the serving team loses the point
Ball contacts
- A maximum of 3 ball contacts per team, similar to volleyball
- After a Red Ball hit on the red edge, the ball contacts are reset
- Allowed techniques include bumping, setting, spiking, pokeys, and other body contacts, as long as the ball is not carried or held
Black Ball and Red Ball
- Black Ball: the ball hits the black surface, possession switches
- Red Ball: the ball hits the red slope, possession stays with the attacking team and ball contacts are reset
Depending on the situation, a Red Ball can be considered playable or not playable. In unclear situations, the point may be replayed.
Blocking
Players are allowed to block shots by positioning themselves close to the board. A block counts as the first ball contact of the team.
Loss of point
A point is lost, among other situations, if:
- the board is touched during play
- the ball hits the ground
- the ball is carried or held
- more than three ball contacts occur
- a player touches the ball twice in a row
- the opposing team’s play is actively obstructed
- during indoor games, the ball touches the ceiling
